The goal of this project was to expand the long, narrow kitchen of this classic 1920s brick colonial to include an eating area.
The addition was complicated by the fact that we had to support the brick face of the second floor. We worked closely with an engineer to install steel beams. In the kitchen, those beams were concealed by a beautiful coffered ceiling.
We focused on making the addition indistinguishable from the original home – materials were chosen to match those of the original, and the kitchen’s bright whites and blues were warmed by a walnut island counter.
